Hi Marion,

I understand your concerns and it's a lovely letter. To be brutally honest with you I felt the exact same way until I started volunteering for the SPCA and saw all that goes on that the general public doesn't know about. I know killing is not the best answer but what do you do when you constantly have dogs coming in and no place to house them? What is your choice when you have 1 sick dog and 12 kennels filled with other dogs.. do you take the chance that the original one wasn't really sick or do you not take the chance and make sure that what ever that dog had doesn't spread to ever single dog in the kennel? If you saw Surrey's ISO you would understand why some get put down... you can't make room for sick animals if you just don't have the room.

Yes, sending them to foster homes would be great but when you don't have foster homes then what? That's when euthanization happens. It's not something anyone is proud of by any means, the shelter manager herself has 2 beautiful dogs and she is not the type of person to just kill dogs for the hell of it.

Again, I totally understand your position and the thinking of most people but after seeing what goes on first hand I now understand why some must die. The only way to really understand is to volunteer yourself as well... you'll get the picture, as sad as it is.

Once more, the SPCA has admitted to killing dogs because of lack of space and money
It can and is being done *LINK* *PIC*
Oh for goodness sakes, YOU STOP TAKING DOGS!
AND you close down backyard breeders and push for implementing breeding by-laws
