Headlines for Thursday September 23/2004

A terrible day yesterday for the North Cariboo SPCA. Executive Director Jeanne Woodhouse says a number of cats being kept for public adoption got sick, and disease spread through the shelter. Ultimately, she says a large number of cats died or had to be put down. Woodhouse stresses it is critical cats that are to be brought to the shelter be vaccinated ahead of time. Not to do so, she says, puts cats at a very high risk. Woodhouse notes the shelter has been decontaminated and is again safe for cats."

I have cried for many, many cats . . . yesterday, today and I'm sure tomorrow as well. As a volunteer for a cat rescue group, we did not receive one phone call from the SPCA asking if we could help any of the cats.

Is this anyone's definition of animal welfare, except for the SPCA's?
