At last, a Director who is willing to share her concerns!

I commend the Victoria Director, Gail Peterson on her letter of resignation being made available to people interested in the BCSPCA. I also wish that other Directors who have resigned in the last while would do the same and share their concerns with everyone. They have been asked to do so, but without results, at least so far.
Many of the comments and concerns that are raised in Gail’s letter are ones that others of us have also brought forward. For example, the apparent control of the whole Society by the CEO and a small group of Directors. Input from a wider area of expertise just seems to fall on deaf ears, if it isn’t in agreement with the current “policy”.
I can quite understand how the group intimidation can be occurring. It is consistent with the lack of varying opinions being shown within the Board of Director meeting minutes, when they finally do become available. I am certain that a range of opinions on many of the agenda items is expressed, but only the final one appears in the minutes.
The financial information that is available is minimal. The un-audited yearly financial statements are the only data published, nothing else is to be seen. There is a large deficit and yet many thousands of dollars are to be spent on legal fees in actions against critics of the Society. There seems to be a code of silence in place instead of acknowledging that this is all from funds donated to help the animals!

Gail’s letter is an excellent example of the type of openness and accountability that the members and others want and deserve, from the Society itself.

I applaud Gail Peterson's views and would like to present my own concerns about the current state of the BCSPCA
The only heartbreaking fact is that it is the animals who continue to suffer as the BC SPCA continues its downward spiral
