I am disgusted with all of the media “hype” regarding the threat of bear attacks! Where did this information come from? TALK ABOUT URBAN LEGENDS!

My understanding, from a valuable source, is that THERE HAS NEVER BEEN AN INJURY TO A HUMAN BEING ON THE NORTH SHORE BY A BEAR! IN NORTH AMERICA IT IS EXTREMELY RARE FOR A BLACK BEAR TO HARM A HUMAN. Now—considering that this year, there have been approximately 5,000 reported bear sightings on the North Shore alone---which means that there may be as many as double that actually seen---and triple or quadruple that, who just have not been seen----- and there has been no harm to humans---WHY WOULD WE TRANQUILIZE OR KILL BEARS? There are thousands of bears around the Lower Mainland------- we are now living in their homes! They seem to be able to live happily without eating us!

THE PROBLEM IS THAT HUMANS PROVIDE EASY FOOD FOR THE BEARS AND DO NOT SEEM TO BE INTERESTED IN DISCOURAGING THEM WHO WOULDN’T COME BY FOR A TASTY SNACK OF FOOD THAT THE BEARS DON’T EVEN HAVE TO LOOK FOR?

There are dogs roaming about, who have the potential of seriously harming others and who have harmed others---we don’t shoot dogs that we see unleashed. There are sexual predators with knives in their backpacks in a local neighborhood---WHO HAVE SERIOUSLY HARMED OTHERS----they are certainly more of a threat than the bears!

Let’s get rid of the craziness and learn to help the bears stay away from humans and in their habitat (which is getting smaller and smaller as we build houses up the mountains). They will stop coming to the neighborhoods when there is no reason for them to come there.

Man does not have the right to get rid of anything that “he” feels is a threat or does not like. Let’s live together in harmony!!
