No place that kills animals for any reason but for unrelievable suffering is a shelter or a care facility.

Pounds exist to protect the public from stray and dangerous dogs. That is all they exist for. And for decades, pounds made no bones about their duty. They openly killed dogs, that they could not recover some costs for, by selling.

That is the business that the BC SPCA has been in for more than fifty years. But the SPCA cleverly hid that it was a dog disposal contractor by calling its disposal centres "shelters".

And it combined paid contracts to dispose of dogs with an unlimited surrender policy of all species of pets and disposed of millions of them too, being "paid" to do this by more millions of dollars in donations, given by donators who were fooled into believing that the SPCA's dirty, diseased, bleak, soul-destroying, slave selling, disposal centres were "shelters". When asked why the centres were so awful, the SPCA always said they would better if only everyone would give more money. But when more money was given, it was spent on high wages and salaries, trips around the world, fancy vehicles, retreats to posh resorts, and on lawyers to try to silence anyone who dared to say this. And the disposal centres got grimmer and more efficient at killing the unsellable.
