Surrey Leader: Senior injured in pit bull attack

Senior injured in pit bull attack

Eighty-six-year-old Bud Wrayton and his dog Bandit were injured during a pit bull attack Nov. 19 in Cloverdale. The elderly man spent 10 days in hospital, and remains sore and disoriented nearly two weeks after the incident. Bandit required stitches.

The family of an 86-year-old Cloverdale man says Bud Wrayton hasn't been the same since he and the dog he was walking were attacked by a pit bull near his home.
"He doesn't know what hit him," his daughter, Beverly Wrayton, said Monday.
"It's really set him back."
Her father spent 10 days in hospital after the attack, which occurred about 2:49 p.m. near Holstein and 60 Ave. on Friday, Nov. 19 as Wrayton was walking a nine-year-old blue heeler named Bandit on a leash.
The pit bull jumped a fence, and grabbed Bandit by the neck.
The larger dog dragged Bandit, pulling on the leash and knocking Wrayton to the ground where he injured his hip.
Local residents, including the pit bull's owner, came to the rescue and pulled the dog off.
Beverly said her father managed to avoid a fracture, but the formerly vigorous senior who took two walks a day now has to use a wheelchair.
"He's very sore," his daughter said.
She added her father has been disoriented since he came back from hospital and unwilling to talk about the incident.
Bandit has required several stitches and a couple of expensive trips to the veterinarian, Beverly added.
The family is considering legal action against the pit bull owner, she said.
An eyewitness who came to the aid of Wrayton said the pit bull owner offered to have the animal put down.
However, the Surrey SPCA reports the animal had not been turned in as of Tuesday.
Their investigation of the incident is continuing.
