Fire in a shed kills goat, puppies

ABBOTSFORD - Ten puppies and a goat are dead after a fire destroyed a shed on a property at 38585 North Parallel Rd. Monday morning.

An adult pit bill dog may have also died in the fire, which occurred at about 5:20 a.m. and destroyed the shed and its contents. The pit bull has yet to be found.

Abbotsford Fire Rescue spokeswoman Charlene Jordan-Jones said when crews arrived the shed was fully engulfed with flames and the heat from the fire was melting the siding on a nearby house.

Owners of dog-breeding business fear they won't be able to start over

LANGLEY - The owners of a brand-new dog breeding business say they don't know where to go, now that fire has gutted their home and killed many of their dogs.

Angelica Reid, Kyle England and Robert Fast had just acquired the last pit bull terrier to start their kennel when fire broke out Saturday night in a home in the 2600 block of 272nd St.

According to Reid, five dogs died. An eight-month-old male named Crinshaw was the only one to get out of the kennel in the home's carport.

He suffered burns and has been treated by a vet, but still needs antibiotics and other medication. Another dog, Justice, was in the house and also survived. She is expecting puppies.

The fire apparently broke out due to heat lamps that had been used to keep the kennel warm for the dogs, said Langley Township Fire Department assistant chief Len Foss.

The flames spread into the roof of the building and the owner will likely have it torn down.
