"I started practicing veterinary medicine at the Vancouver SPCA clinic because I idealistically wanted to do the most good for animals. I was appalled! Not only was the care substandard, but I found out that they didn't really help the poor or homeless suffering animals, they were ruthless with everyone....if you didn't have the money you and your sick or injured animal got turned away or you were told that you could surrender your pet to the SPCA and that they would put it down if they wanted to (which they often did). I quit and started working with vets in private practice and found that they were far more compassionate than the SPCA and did far more free work than the SPCA did."
