Dear Sirs/Madam,

Re: Stanley Park Petting Zoo

As somebody who has been involved with animal advocacy and welfare for over a decade I commend efforts to expand the ecology centre and close or phase out the petting zoo.
It is evident that our society has progressed in its views towards the keeping of animals and the recognition of them as sentient beings.

Entrenched attitudes that they are ours to procure and exploit, whether it be for entertainment or as a teaching aid is being called into question on a daily basis. Animals are best respected and left in their natural habitat without human interference. Uncaged, untouched. That would be an invaluable message to pass on to our children.

I urge you to show leadership with a progressive stance that addresses the well-being of the animals first, rather than reinforcing public perception that human beings have the inherent right to use other species for self-serving and personal gratification purposes.

Sincerely,

Carmina Gooch
