I heard that when growing grain, thousands of small fields animals are killed. You have to be able to grow your own crops to avoid any suffering at all, and not use many of our modern-day conveniences. There is no easy way around this problem of suffering. Humans have been doing it forever; they're not going to stop until they wipe themselves off the place of this planet for good.
