Letter of Response

A letter in response to "That's My Baby" program:

The Discovery Channel is such an amazing medium for education, which is why I am sickened that it would air a segment called "That's My Baby". I work for a small animal rescue that is made up soley of volunteers, and we are completely overwhelmed with pregnant moms and kittens. In the last two weeks, I've had 21 abandoned cats in for spaying & neutering. Out of this batch of cats, 16 were pregnant females, which had to be aborted as we simply cannot find enough foster homes or permanent homes for them. Half of these cats are feral and can never be-rehomed, so will live out a few years of starvation and fear before dying alone. All are dumped, unwanted animals, which don't deserve the life into which they were born. I have 3 litters of kittens totalling 17, in my home right now. It's too much for anyone to handle and your segment struck a sore nerve. The small rescue groups out here are struggling to cope with thousands and thousands of dumped animals, and a major educational program promotes breeding, implies that it's okay and even sweet to bring more animals into a world that cannot cope with the ones that are here already?? Shame on you. Please make this situation right by investigating the truth about what happens to the countless kittens & pups that are thoughtlessly bred every day. The staggering number of animals that are killed every year, come from nice homes like the one the Discovery Channel featured. I beg you to have the courage to do a real story about this issue.

Sincerely,

Crystal Kerr
