The way the animal welfare/animal disposal business makes money
In Response To: SPCA's are similar everywhere ()

AAS said ten years ago that the animal welfare/animal disposal industry was just that - an industry. And like any industry, all the members follow the policies that make money - and that sure as hell isn't by doing real animal welfare as anyone who does real animal welfare can attest.

The way the animal welfare/animal disposal business makes money is to appear to be doing animal welfare (to get donations) while actually only doing animal population control. It controls the expense of the population of animals in its pounds by killing any sick or unsellable product. And it makes money by contracting to do animal control with municipalities (which it also promotes as animal welfare).

To make money at the business, you have to have the media willing to repeat your lies and you have to have a lot of gullible, self-serving volunteers helping you to cover it all up. A whole army of Little Women is in bed with the BC SPCA (revolting image...sorry).

But something happened in BC that rocked the SPCA's boat that had stayed steadily on course for so many decades. Some of the Little Women, who had only been able to gripe and gossip to each other about the brutality, indifference, cruelty, and killing in SPCA branches spread all over BC, got connected by the internet and started to put what they knew in writing.

And some women were now educated in the ways of business and recognized what most of the SPCA's Little Women could not comprehend - that the SPCA's animal welfare was just another way of doing the animal disposal business. And they used the internet to force change. The SPCA, like any successful business, resisted with all the power that its millions of dollars of donations meant to save sick animals instead of kill them (as it did - again - in Kamloops on May 11th when it killed 59 cats it only suspected of being sick). That is blatant management of the bottom line and because the media in Kamloops is still so red-necked, the SPCA pulled it off.

But change is coming no matter how hard the SPCA clings to old business ways. It would no longer get away so cleanly in the Lower Mainland media.
