SPCA staff to converge on Nanaimo for conference

This weekend June 16 to 18, more than 80 BC SPCA staff members and volunteers from across the province will be in Nanaimo for a special conference, titled Pathway to Success.

Through a series of workshops and lectures, participants will learn about making a difference through human education, recognising animal cruelty in their community, fundraising and recruiting community council members.

“This is the first time the society has put together something like this,” said Norma Lesage, chair of the Nanaimo and District Community Council. “The society recognises the importance of its volunteers and wants to make sure they have the knowledge and necessary skills for their role within the organization.” Offered in partnership with Volunteer Nanaimo, Malaspina University-College, and the Centre for Continuing Studies, the conference will provide a forum to develop volunteer growth at a branch, district and regional level with the Society.

Along with the workshops, published and award-winning author Dr. Andrew Rowan will be presenting “Managing the Menagerie: Planning and Effectiveness in the Animal Protection Movement.” It will highlight the impact of the animal protection movement over the last 50 years.

This conference seems, from the P.R., to be all about the SPCA, not about animals
