The Cruelty of Animals Act requires that the SPCA hold an Annual General Meeting (AGM) at least once a year. There are certain items of business which must be conducted at this meeting. It is the one opportunity that members have to ask questions of the Board and Senior Staff - democracy in action.

A limited number of official representatives get their costs paid but most people pay their own way. I believe that the venue in Naniamo was choosen because it was substantially less expensive than the traditional venues in Vancouver.

The Society has traditionally tried to add some educational and inspirational topics to the gathering. In my time with the Society I attended ( at my own expense) three such AGM's. I felt that the educational and inspirational items were worthwhile - the legal business got done too.
