The Vancouver City Pound adoption agreement form prohibits the use of a dog purchased from it to be used as a guard dog.
5. "I agree that this dog will not be used as a guard dog, or to protect an illegal operation."
To use the word "guard" in an advertisement for dogs is to attract the kind of person who is looking for a dog to be used primarily or exclusively as a guard dog. Dogs purchased for this reason will be chained, penned , garaged, or otherwise made miserable by isolation in a residential or business yard or building. AAS has investigated and documented and received reports of hundreds of these dogs (read link) and we know that there are many hundreds more. These are the dogs that eventually end up back at a pound because they are driven mad by the isolation and are then killed for being aggressive after an SPCA or a pound applies its "Assessment Protocols" to it. Assessment Protocols are the latest buzz word at pounds and SPCAs to justify what they both must do because of the business they are both in.
