Staff member, I can understand how you took this personally. That you felt that AAS was criticizing you or judging that you were an uncaring staff member. By first reading AAS's words, I can see how this may happen.
But after reading it again, I think I understand what AAS is trying to convey. The problem is that the BCSPCA doesn't currently have any set guidelines on who is being hired. Basically, all you need is a driver's license and Grade 12 education to get a job. In some cases, this can even be waived! Sure, stating in your job interview that you enjoy working with animals will help. But other than that, that's all that's required. After that, staff receive very minimal training and support. Yes, there are a few courses that are offered. Not mandatory. And it's true that the Special Constables receive further, yet minimal, training. That's it!
Shouldn't the BCSPCA demand certain requirements of their staff? I sure think so!
