Comment: Putting the onus on dog owners

"Experts say implementing regulatory measures for breeders and trainers as well as spaying and neutering aggressive breeds may be the answer to limiting dog attacks. But they say some of the onus is on dog owners to understand their animals a little better."

The onus is already on dog owners and the only difference that has made is for there to be more serious dog maulings. Without laws, crime grows. There needs to be a law controlling the keeping of certain dogs, just as there is a law against owning certain other weapons. Our current Dangerous Dogs laws , that only are enforced after a person, usually a child, is killed or disfigured, are all we have. We have no preventative laws. Legislators are paralysed by the vociferous breed defenders lobby which is composed of dog breeders, guard dog companies, dog behaviourist, dog trainers, breed owners, criminals, and the well-meaning, but mistaken dog-loving public, who believe the myth that there are no bad dogs, just bad owners.

Shelters and pounds are filled with Pit Bulls and Rotties
I blame the SPCA for not lobbying to make it harder to breed!
