In Response To: SPCA Feral Spay & Neuter Day ()

The spay and neuter society I volunteer for in the month of February this year so far has participated in helping spay 41 cats, neuter 39 cats, spay 5 dogs and neuter 6 dogs. The society has also helped low-income people with medical expenses in 28 cases .This small society in Victoria does this every month quietly and proudly.

Multiplied by 12 that makes 1092 animals spayed and neutered in a year.

We are very grateful to the veternarians who work with us on a daily basis and the number of vets who do is growing as they understand that to stop the cycle of the killing of unwanted animals the main answer is spay and neuter. There are not enough homes for all and recycling them as fast as we can is not the answer.

Contrast this with the Spay and Neuter Day the BC SPCA had yesterday in Vancouver. Yes, it is a start. Yes approximately 19 cats were spayed and neutered.

But once a year ? And this once a year was covered by the media as if it was a great and marvelous event.

I am afraid I truly must ask "Who was this for?"

It cannot have been for the animals as they certainly need more help than this mere attempt.

Therefore again, it is the BCSPCA helping itself and that is a darn shame.

I keep hoping one day they will HONESTLY AND WITHOUT MEDIA COVERAGE just do the right thing for the sake of the animals.

SPCA policy may not be good for animals, but it is good for the SPCA
