Attention: Mayor and Council
As a dog owner and lover, I am appalled that the City would not take a more appropriate stance on the issue of chaining dogs. As a frequent traveller through the City of Vancouver, I have the opportunity to see many animals living in squalor. I ask you? Would you treat your children this way -- chain them up and have them walking through their own feces. We say that this is not the right way to bring up our children. To those of us who love animals, they are our children and the fact that the city, who is supposed to act for the betterment of society and the people in it, is doing nothing to address this issue is appalling. These loving creatures that love you no matter what -- no shelter, food, water, or care and guess what !! they still love you. Can you say the same for the druggies and the criminals that we try to rehabilitate. I know that the dogs would appreciate it.
I have a rescue dog and when I received her she was in dire condition. She was undernourished a mere 23 lbs, her ribs were clearly outlined, she ate her own feces, she urinated in the house, jumped up on the counter to steal food, she cowered in the corner afraid of people, sounds, water .... and was afraid of car rides. Now, with a bit of care she is 85 lbs, a loving family dog that loves me and my family every minute, she is well mannered, loves a car ride, happy, and the best dog I could possibly ask for.
I realize that not every dog will be as fortunate, however, for their short and horrible lives living on a chain -- at least give them the opportunity to stretch their poor crippled up muscles and walk around. It is the least the City should do and it is the humane and right thing to do.
