SPCA - forget blaming the public for not "respecting and caring" for its animals. Has humanity ever proven it has that ability? You are charged with making us accountable. Get stories of abuse in our faces. Fight for changes in the laws. Make us ashamed and angry enough to help you. Forget targeting unspayed pets - eradicate breeding mills, irresponsible breeders, dog fighting dens and charge them. Fight to change the legal status of animals so the abuse of one leads to serious criminal consequences. It should be HARD to get a pet - make us see it as a treasured privilege. Surely you aspire to meet the standards of the renowned San Francisco SPCA? Surely you WANT to be the best? Public support is your friend, but we're not stupid - make an honest effort, get results and support will come. Public - look into the trusting eyes of a dog and tell me you see anything in there that deserves to be beaten, thrown out of a speeding car and abandoned in a cage. We made animals our companions - we are responsible for them and we’re not keeping our end of the bargain. Animals are paying with their lives and nobody cares enough.
