Recent experience with the Victoria SPCA

A lady I know contacted me about re-homing her Shiba a few months ago, I offered assistance had a home lined up and she backed out, she told me she would "give it a go". I told her to call me any time if she needed help. She also knew who the breeder of the dog who was also willing to take back her dog.

Just a week or so ago, she dumped this shiba at the Victoria SPCA with the breeders name on a note. The shelter did NOT contact the breeder to even let her know the dog was there! BUT they gave the name of the breeder to the new family that adopted the dog - the family was not screened and was simply adopted the dog. Thankfully they are a good home who was looking for a shiba and has since visited the breeder to let her know the dog is ok.

I've e-mailed the SPCA asking why they didn't contact the breeder or me (shiba rescue). I have yet to have a response and doubt I will. WHY would the SPCA want to keep a dog that has a breeder that would pick the dog up that day? OR call rescue who would do the same?

With shelters being full and there are two options for the dog (excellent options) for what reason would they want to keep it? Do they want to keep it because it's resalable? It's a beautiful young purebred dog. The dog was only there two days thank goodness but she could have not been there at all.

In Victoria the SPCA itself is not killing for space: it is letting others do it
