Fur belongs on animals, not on people

Letter

Thursday, November 22, 2007

It was disappointing to read another newspaper article lauding the (ab)use of animal fur in the fashion industry. The people who object to this are not kooks or eccentrics, but rather conscientious individuals who are aware of the horrendous treatment these animals undergo for no better reason than to accessorize luxury garments. Most of us know that the animals are slaughtered in a barbaric, pain-filled manner having lived a miserable, stressed-out life on these farms (the so-called "sop they give the protesters" is buying only farmed fur). If Badgley and Mischka were to be present in one of the animal slaughterhouses, I wonder if they would remain as nonchalant about the subject as they appear to be now.
