I would like to ask Bo Derek if she has room for the 50,242 horses slaughtered last year or the ones that will be slaughtered this year on her farm. As a horse lover and owner one must realize that there isn't a home for all the horses produced in the world and by banning horse meat you could in fact be making life even worse for some horses. Where will those horses end up? What if the owner doesn't have enough feed? Should they just let the animal starve? I ask Bo to investigate the cases in the US of starving animals because the owners have no where to send the horses due to the slaughter ban there.

The only way to reduce the number of horses ending up on dinner plates is to reduce breeding but that won't stop as many horse owners feel it's their right to breed their horses. While I personally do not eat horse meat, I eat other meats so how can one criticize someone for enjoying another type of meat? Bo may not realize that the conditions in Mexico are much worse and hardly humane and by banning slaughter in Canada it will only fuel the market in Mexico offering a worse option for horses. Bo may also not realize that transport Canada just changed the law and will not allow horses to travel in double-decker livestock trucks any longer, therefore ensuring safer travel for horses to slaughter. I hate seeing beloved horses off to slaughter but if people keep breeding horses there is going to be a need for slaughter as there will never be enough homes, owners and farms for all these horses. People will always eat meat, you can't make the world vegetarian. At least in Canada the animals are killed humanely and treated with dignity. I say save the horses from what will be worse treatment. Please do your research before jumping on the anti-slaughter bandwagon and be careful what you wish for.....
