Dr Temple Grandin and Equine Canada defends horse slaughter

Dr Grandin: "My worst nightmare has happened," Dr. Grandin said. "People go, 'Ick, I don't want to eat horses.' But what they weren't thinking about were worse fates than slaughter."

Equine Canada: "Even some horse lovers recognize slaughter as a necessity. Equine Canada, the governing body for equestrian sports, released a statement yesterday saying it realizes the processing of horses "provides a humane alternative to allowing the horses to continue a life of discomfort and pain, inadequate care or abandonment."

Let's put this solution into perspective: Do dog and cat lovers ever say the solution to too many dogs and cats is to slaughter and eat them?

They don't. They are working at the roots: less breeding.

We can understand users like Equine Canada defending an easy way to get rid of the excess horses their members breed and discard.

But why is Dr Grandin defending, in any way, with any words, the cycle of breed/dispose?

No cycle stops as long as everyone keeps it rolling. Someone has to put a stick in the spokes of a wheel of self-interested cruelty.

Activists see that and are the ones who say, if no one else will tell the truth, I will.

Thank you all horse activists who see the wheel of cruelty and are not fooled by the defenders.
