I will give Petland this...

As many know I am not a fan of any pet in pet stores but I will give Petland this, they promote spay and neuter, they don't have their puppies on wire cages and from one experience they do actually work with the buyer about the puppy they are going to purchase.

I went into a Petland in a different city to see how things worked and I was actually impressed at the service I received and the effort the staff member took with me to see if I really wanted that puppy in the window. Turned out I wasn't a good candidate for a puppy and the sales person wasn't inclined to sell me the puppy! Alas I still rather not see dogs in pets stores... In saying that there is another pet store here I know well and all they care about is selling the dog, there is no interview, the staff tell you how wonderful and easy all the puppies are and have even mentioned breeding the pup to recoup some of your money! SO if there is a choice I say at least Petland is trying to be more proactive than the other whom I also know is directly supporting large scale commercial breeders. Still a good breeder would never sell their pups through a store.....

I still say the best place to get a dog is the pound, spca, rescue or a very reputable/responsible breeder. Nobody can guarantee a dog won't end up in a shelter but we can all try our best to ensure they don't. I think with the amount of animals in need today there is no need to sell animals in pet stores, I rather see photos of shelter animals in need in those stores, that makes most sense to me.
