The Pet Express vans are just another PR & fundraising stunt. If PetCetera is donating $150,000 over 5 years and did not provide the vans, the BC SPCA must have spent an awful lot of donations on purchasing the vans, refitting them, insuring them, and hiring staff to drive them. Naive people will be impressed by them, I suppose, and foolish people will donate to them, but they won't solve any overpopulation problems. They'll give the public the false and dangerous impression that there ARE homes for all the dogs and cats in the province. Wouldn't it be wonderful if all that money could be invested in spay/neuter instead. I don't see the BC SPCA asking the public to donate to a designated spay/neuter fund, which would make a lot of sense, accomplish something and help educate the public on the desperate animal overpopulation problem.
