Poor Statistics and lack of science :
From a reading paper "The Development of a Validated Test To Assess The Temperament of Dogs in a Rescue Shelter" by R.A. Ledger & M.R. Baxter."
"Subject tested were 56 dogs kennelled at an RSPCA rescue shelter. Dogs were of various breeds and ages ranging from 5 months to 10 years. All dogs had been brought to the RSPCA by their owners, none were strays. 40 of these dogs were eventually homed. Dogs had been admitted for behavioural and non-behavioural reasons. All dogs were behaviourally tested on the day following admittance."
Perhaps the key point in this is that the DTA4 test is based on results that were only done on owner surrendered dogs. Strays, distressed, or dogs of unknown origin are therefore being assessed by the BCSPCA without any rational basis at all, scientific or otherwise!
As a separate point Craig Daniell is fully aware of the RSPCA assessment process since I gave him a copy directly some months ago, as he had expressed an interest in seeing it. As everyone can see he did nothing with it. What a shame as this is a much more detailed, fair and compassionate approach to determining what is needed to give all the dogs a chance to find good homes!
