But it's just the same old gang of zoo keepers, all tarted up flashy in "the science of saving species" suits. As usual with people who are essentially salesmen, they are not too bright.
But this is a fast-growing industry and there is a lot of money to be made "saving species". Politicians happily give these salesmen taxpayers' money because the pols get to be in the media cutting ribbons at zoo openings and beaming with the big players.
There is always some weak creature at the bottom of the totem pole, whether it is children in India making clothes for Gap, or immigrants flipping hamburgers at McDonald's, or prostitutes on the streets, or animals making billions of dollars annually for the big players in the "animal industry".
Whale watching, zoos, wildlife centers, and aquariums, all are making money displaying animals. The display cases have changed to follow the money that old cages can't attract, that's all.
