The Pacific Rim Endangered Species Centre (PRESC) will be the world's premiere site for research, education and conservation commitments to benefit the urgent needs of North American and Asian imperilled species and their habitats. It was established through a joint venture involving Canadian and Chinese business partners, conservation organizations and government.
PRESC, to be built in the Vancouver area of southern British Columbia, will be an international attraction and will incorporate large, naturalistic state-of-the-art animal habitats, research facilities, an education/interpretation centre, an eco-resort hotel complex and cultural centres dedicated to Asian and First Nations peoples. The complex will showcase the latest advances in environmentally friendly technology and building materials.
PRESC is negotiating with China's Ministry of Forest and Ministry of Construction for the loan to Canada of breeding pairs of the giant panda, one of the world's most precious and endangered species. The goal is to significantly contribute toward their survival and ultimately the recovery of panda populations in the wild.
