Re: Three estates switched from the SPCA to Forgotten Felines

I know of at least one woman who has changed her will to make Friends For Cats one of the beneficiaries, instead of the SPCA as she had included before. She made this decision after listening to an elderly woman talk about how the SPCA accepted all the feral mothers and tiny kittens from her colony for years, and killed most of them (after promising to find good homes for them all).

Once Friends For Cats became involved in 2001, we trapped all the cats, had them spayed and neutered, and rehomed some of them.

Although the elderly woman has had to move, she still supports her colony financially. Friends For Cats does all the facilitating, and the wonderful new tenant in the seniors residence is more than happy to take care of the colony on a daily basis.

I worked for the SPCA when I first learned of this woman, and the situation with her feral cat colony. I asked the then branch manager if we could not just spay/neuter the cats instead of killing them, and her reply to me was - "No, the woman is old. The cats will outlive her." They didn't even look for an alternaive to killing them all.

As of February 2006 about 90 other organizations are competing with the BC SPCA for donations
No wonder the SPCA is struggling financially
This is why donations are going from the SPCA to the alternative organizations
Three estates switched from the SPCA to Forgotten Felines

People give their money to Societies that treat them with respect
I know my money is being spent on what I intended when I donate to other animal welfare/rescue groups
