I know my money is being spent on what I intended when I donate to other animal welfare/rescue groups

We are a long established business and over the last decade or so have supported a number of animal welfare related charitable organizations, including the SPCA. Specifically, we donated materials to the SPCA Animal Learning Centre in Surrey so that the grounds could be improved. We also brought the recyclable tins from our pop machine for the kids 'Bottles for Bunnies' program, one in which the funds raised were spent on the spay and neuter of rabbits, and a few guinea pigs. It was very successful for several years and from about mid 1999 to the end of 2004 250 rabbits had been altered with the proceeds.

However, due to restructuring and staff changes the program as we knew it fell apart.

It was during this time too, that the SPCA was receiving a lot of bad press and new animal welfare/rescue groups were emerging. Among them were several groups with whom we share the same ideals and goals. Whether it's spay/neuter of cats and rabbits, printing educational pamphlets, lobbying for change, or designing and building a play area for the critters, I know my money is being spent on what I intended.

Therefore we will continue to direct our charitable contributions to the smaller local groups where we can see the results of our donations at work.

At this point in time we cannot include the SPCA.

As of February 2006 about 90 other organizations are competing with the BC SPCA for donations
No wonder the SPCA is struggling financially
This is why donations are going from the SPCA to the alternative organizations
Three estates switched from the SPCA to Forgotten Felines
