BC SPCA CEO Craig Daniell wrote in the Vancouver Sun in February, "When the SPCA must euthanize an animal, it is for the same reason so-called “ no-kill” facilities euthanize animals — to end the suffering of an animal that is beyond medical help or to protect the public from a highly aggressive animal that has not responded to rehabilitation."
There are many little animal welfare no-kill groups in BC which do not have contracts to control a municipality's animals, but which do have "facilities". Are any of these the ones Mr Daniell means when he referred to so-called “ no-kill” facilities?
One of the alternative no-kill animal welfare agencies with a facility (a true shelter) is Happy Cat Haven in Gibsons. Is Happy Cat Haven one of the "so-called no-kill facilities" that Mr Daniell means when he says the SPCA kills animals for the same reasons that other facilities do?
How about Safe Haven Society in Chilliwack? Or Vernon and District Animal Care Society in Vernon? Or Rabbit Advocacy Group of BC in North Vancouver? How about any of the other many small real no-kill groups?
It would be interesting to know how these other groups, with or without facilities, define no-kill.
