Why did the Surrey SPCA kill all these old dogs?

This is ridiculous! My dog is much livelier now that I just had three of her teeth pulled that I didn't know were rotten. My vet said it's so easy to not know especially those back teeth. She is 14 years old and is bouncing again. How many people treat their old dogs just as valuable as young dog like I do, I bet millions. How many treat them like the SPCA did? Millions more probably, but that doesn't make it right! JMO.

Old dogs put down by SPCA
By Dan Ferguson - Surrey North Delta Leader - April 23, 2008

An elderly Surrey dog breeder didn’t have the heart to put down her oldest animals, so the SPCA was forced to do it for her.

The kennel owner, who is in her 80s, is said to have told her son that she just couldn’t bring herself to do it because she wouldn’t want to be euthanized herself.

When someone complained to the SPCA about the condition of the older dogs, officers of the animal protection agency paid the Cloverdale-area facility a visit.

Last week, they found nine dogs suffering from serious age-related ailments that had to be put down.

“They were very, very old dogs,” said Eileen Drever, a senior animal protection officer with the B.C. SPCA.

Drever said charges would likely not be laid against the kennel owner because it appears to be a case of misplaced kindness rather than overt abuse.

“We have to look at the whole picture.”

The family of the elderly woman has agreed to work with her to change her operating practices, Drever added
