In regards to your query about the shooting of dogs and/or cats, it is unfortunate, but under the Criminal Code, the killing of a stray animal is permitted for any reason, as long as the method is humane, and doesn't cause unnecessary suffering. Stray animals have no protection under the law because they aren't "owned for a lawful purpose".
