Has anyone asked PETA why it killed the cats and dogs?

PeTA has done a lot of good, something that this criticism does not take into account, teaching veganism and empowering people to take risks exposing cruelty, something that most people aren't brave enough to do without the PeTA "family" behind them. Has anyone asked PeTA why it killed some animals? Perhaps there is a good reason.
