Hello, Michelle,

Of course, all charities need money. It's how you raise it that can be problematic. I don't know if your first paragraph refers to IPPL, but I think it does.

The International Primate Protection League raises money almost entirely from mailings to members, receiving dedicated donations for overseas primate sancturies and also some foundation grants and legacies. Our magazine is up-to-date in explaining where our members' money goes. We guard our list carefully, so we don't send names out to boilershops ever. We have never solicited any money by phoning people. Maybe that's why the BC SPCA is so rich compared to us!

Dr. McGreal takes no salary at all, just expenses, nor do any of her Board of Directors- all female. There are no high salaries at all, unlike many of the well-known groups. That helps to keep our budget low.

I don't want my records of giving going to third parties. Not too many people do. Why not send newsletters on provincial issues? Accountability and explanations of issues are so important to members. If we know what we're giving for, we would give a lot more.
