VANCOUVER/ CKNW (AM980) -- The parents of a 12-year-old boy who was mauled by a dog in south Vancouver two years ago, are suing the dog's owners on behalf of their son.

The boy was playing in George Park at Poplar and 63rd, when he was suddenly attacked by a four-year-old male terrier cross in May of 2001.

In a negligence lawsuit filed in B.C. Supreme Court, the parents of the boy allege the dog lived at the home of Darshan and Jagindar Sandhu, and was under their care and control or that of their tenants the day of the incident.

The parents allege the dog's owners failed to keep the animal under control and made no attempt to intervene in the attack once it was underway. The lawsuit claims the young boy suffered lacerations to his face, as well as emotional trauma and anxiety.

They're seeking damages for pain and suffering and expenses.
