Please help the pup in Tofino (See: message below: http://www.animaladvocates.com/cgi-bin/newsroom.pl/read/1924 and all the others in Tofino that are living the same miserable, lonely lives, by lending your voice to support my proposed bylaw that would ensure a minimum standard of care for dogs and ban isolation of yard dogs by 24/7 chaining.

Below is a letter that I've composed for those who don't have time to write a letter, but want to add their voice to this case. It can be cut, pasted and signed, and then emailed to the address of the Mayor of Tofino listed below.

Please cc your letter to crystal Kerr at kermode@island.net.

Thank you sincerely for taking the time to help this pup.

Dear Mayor and Councillors,

I am writing to express my support of the proposed Humane Treatment of Dogs bylaw submitted by Tofino resident Crystal Kerr, and to urge you to stop the cruel isolation and suffering of tethered and chained yard dogs in Tofino.

My family will not be travelling to Tofino to spend our vacation there until this out-dated, inhumane treatment stops. Dogs are pack animals by nature and to isolate a dog from any social interaction by keeping it alone, tied in a backyard, is one of the most cruel things a society can do. A dog that is kept away from humans and others dogs is a frightened, lonely, bored, and frustrated animal that has the potential to become aggressive and dangerous.

This is not only inherently cruel, but poses an unfair risk to the public. People who own dogs have a responsibility to provide them with social interaction with humans and other dogs and a basic level of medical care.

I implore you and this council to adopt the proposed bylaw to protect these animals and provide an example to British Columbia, showing that Tofino is a humane, community driven vacation destination and a place where we can be proud to spend our tourist dollars. I will wait to see if a bylaw is adopted before we make any vacation plans that include Tofino.

Sincerely,

(signature)
