Woman saves just-born goat from being sold for meat

Last week a woman attended a "Fraser Valley Slaughter Auction", where she bid on a newborn goat who was barely alive, umbilical cord still trailing, and it was being sold for meat. She rescued the goat and was attempting to bottle feed it around the clock to save it's life. I have not heard if it survived.

Why are these animals not kept humanely prior to their death? Is this not a requirement?
