Experts from around the nation will be in Burnaby, BC (next to Vancouver) this July 7th - 10th to share their knowledge and experience regarding highly cost-effective programs that reduce the number of unwanted cats and dogs in the LET-LIVE way. Killing adoptable animals is certainly the cost-effective program the BCSPCA uses.
Managing the Expectation Gap to Increase Successful Dog Adoptions

A longitudinal study of adopted shelter dogs in the UK has indicated that the more an adopted dog differs from the owner's expectation, the more likely it is to be returned to the shelter. This `Expectation Gap' can be minimised by a) ensuring that shelter dogs are trained appropriately to meet the expectations of their new guardians, b) matching assessed dogs with assessed owners, and c) ensuring that owners are provided with continued support in order to address behaviour problems as they arise. Rebecca Ledger will describe how matching temperament-tested dogs with expectation-tested owners has improved the number of successful adoptions from RSPCA shelters in the UK. Nadine Gourkow will then describe how this approach to re-homing is being implemented, validated and managed at BC SPCA rescue shelters.

Let Live Canada is a new national organization dedicated to facilitating the "no-kill solution" to the problem of companion animal overpopulation across Canada. We invite all who share our goals to join us.
Share their goals? To use a needle with euthanol on dogs who've passed assessments tests? Somehow I think Let-Live Canada had better check their guest speaker list more carefully. Given that Gourkow helped the SPCA lie publicly for an entire week about Cheech's temperament to ensure his death if they ever got him back, then continued to lie publicly after CTV News got the test results and waved them in front of her, I hardly think ticket sales to see her speak will be through the roof. Would she even have the nerve to show up?
