The SPCA saves a lot of money by dumping rather than cremating because of the very substantial "bulk" savings. The SPCA kills and disposes of so many animals that economy of scale is a factor in its business. Real animal welfarists have to dispose of so few bodies that cremation of a body is affordable.
Real animal welfarists cannot bear to think of little bodies being dumped like garbage, shovelled by huge machines, compacted and trucked, or just left to rot, stiff little arms and legs pointing to heaven, blank eyes being picked out by gulls. But that is what the SPCA has done for a century.
