This is NOT animal welfare: Ask the SPCA why it is still keeping dogs in "Alcatrazes for animals" *PIC*

The SPCA takes in $20 million a year, most of that from sincere, trusting, dog lovers (and some of it from contracts to "dispose of" unwanted dogs). What is the SPCA spending that money on? It won't say. This deeply secretive organization will not say where donators money is spent, but it has spent itself into a $10 million dollar hole without improving even one of the third world facilities it stacks its animals in.

Every animal lover needs to demand accountability from the SPCA and to demand that the money be spent first on animals.

Here is what you can do to change the misery that the SPCA keeps its animals in. Go to your SPCA. Take photos of the conditions. Send those photos to the BC SPCA and to your local media with a letter pointing out that the SPCA will not reveal its finances, even though the Charities Unit of the Ministry of Finance told AAS that the BC SPCA is "not in good standing" because the department has not received any financial statements from the BC SPCA for 2002 and 2003, and has not ever received a audited statement from the BC SPCA (as the PCA Act says it must).

Say in your letter that the SPCA has actually cut back on animal welfare services while saying that it hasn't. Say that you want a government audit of the BC SPCA, and for its special secret status to be removed. Say that you want the SPCA to spend less on itself and more on animals. And you can mention if you want, that the SPCA is spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on lawyers to stop AAS for saying things like this; that it spends money training staff to kill in bulk instead of training them in how to save lives; that it spends money on training staff in a test that is designed to fail dogs; that it spends money on glossy P.R. like its promise to give safety to the pets of women escaping violence when it has no real program. This is just the tip of the iceberg that is the real SPCA and it is time to force it to do the real animal welfare it gets millions of dollars a year to do.

Why is this SPCA dog in a chainlink and concrete cell.....
