DELTA HUMANE SOCIETY IS AWARDED THE ANIMAL CONTROL CONTRACT FOR DELTA
The Delta Humane Society has been awarded the Animal Control and Sheltering Services contract for the Corporation of Delta. Delta City Council made an announcement at Monday's televised meeting. Terms of the contract include services such as bylaw enforcement, dog licencing, and operation of the animal shelter located on 80th Street in Tillbury. Other services that the Delta Humane Society will offer in addition to the provisions in the contract are a free spay and neuter program one day a month for qualifying residents, Companion Pet Program for seniors, a "Catch and Release" Spay and Neuter program for feral cats, and an emphasis on humane education in schools and the community. "Our goal is to offer the community more education and services that will enhance the human/animal bond and minimize or eliminate animal suffering" says Amber Cottle, Executive Director of the Delta Humane Society.
Tsawwassen Animal Hospital, Trenant Park Pet Clinic and Sunshine Hills Veterinary Clinic have all agreed to offer support and services at reduced rates for the Society. "We also have a very strong network of volunteers and I am getting calls daily of people wanting to help", says Cottle. "We truly need the support of the community and in return we would like to offer better services. It is really up to all of us to take care of the animals in our community", says Cottle. The Delta Humane Society has a very clear euthanasia policy open to the public for review. "We are committed to not euthanizing any "adoptable" animal", says Cottle.
