Will Nanaimo ever get the new shelter it so desperately needs?

Back in January 2003 an article in the Nanaimo Daily News stated:

From the Nanaimo Daily News - January 27, 2003

SPCA to Build Shelter

Daily News

"The LOCAL SPCA plans to launch a fund-raising campaign to build a new animal shelter off Westwood Road.

Manager Lorrain Chiorando confirmed the provincial SPCA has bought a 14.6 acre property off Westwood Road, and plans to put a new shelter there.

The SPCA head office paid roughly $300 000 for the property in December, she said

The land, an old farm property, includes a house and a barn. It is located between the parkway and Westwood Road, just south of the parking lot for the Parkway Trail.

The SPCA has outgrown its current property on Labieux Road, which it leases.

Chiorando said the SPCA will have to raise money locally to build a new shelter."

Now, nearly two years later it seems as if Head Office is putting up further roadblocks and adding more requirements in order to even think about starting a fundraising campaign. Simon Trevelyan is now saying that the SPCA then needs a professional company, costing $150,000, to run the campaign!
Will Nanaimo ever get it's new shelter? You be the judge!
