Despite all of the negative, there are still some people choosing to do great things at the BCSPCA

Amanda Muir was arguably one of the most humane and devoted employees the BCSPCA had, but she is no longer there due to the SPCA's handling of the Cheech incident. This of course, is a huge loss for the animals.........

But Kim Monteith is still working for the SPCA out of the Vancouver branch, and I've heard some really impressive things said about her. Kim has devoted herself to working with homeless people and their pets, and she was recently featured in a TV show called "Animal Magnetism". Here is what some of Kim's peers have to say about her:

"She has been working with street folk and their pets for years and has helped so many animals and people on the streets! I am happy to hear she made it to the big screen with her work and am sorry I missed seeing it. She is one of the most dedicated people working for the SPCA. She usually works the night emergency shift and spends time between emergencies helping with the animals of the streets and their care-givers."

" Kim is one of the most dedicated persons I know in animal welfare (along with a few others I know). She goes way beyond her job description. I knew Kim from my days of volunteering 10 years at the Van SPCA. Way back then she worked with street kids. This program IS Kim and its her baby. She deserves all the credit along with help from the SPCA providing medical assistance for these animals. I have known Kim many times to end her shift but hear about a kitten in a box out in the valley, and guess what? Her time card doesn't end at end of shift, she drives all the way out there in the pouring rain late at night, and brings the baby kitten back in the van snuggled safely under her shirt. I also observed her stay with an injured raccoon many, many hours after a shift at the hospital, to make sure the little guy was examined and euthenized with someone there who cared about this little raccoon she found. The other officer said to her "Go home Kim", but she stood her ground and said she would prefer not to. I have seen this over and over with Kim over the years..
Was it last year her hours were cut in the front line cuts? I see now she hopefully has more shifts,,, as I truly believe this young woman should be CEO...this is what animal welfare is all about.

This is the kind of compassion and dedication that all SPCA critics hope to see throughout this organization. We can only hope it will be sooner than later, as the animals deserve no less than this kind of care.

I volunteer at the Vancouver Branch walking dogs
From someone who has volunteered at the Vancouver SPCA for ten years to someone who is still very green around the edges
I have to say that while I am happy to hear of the good people at the Vancouver SPCA, I myself have had very negative experiences
