I have to say that while I am happy to hear of the good people at the Vancouver SPCA, I myself have had very negative experiences. In the Summer of 03, while I was volunteering at the Burnaby SPCA, one of our really sweet Staffie crosses was shipped off to the Vancouver SPCA for growling at a vet tech who has been bitten, growled at and lunged at by more dogs than you can imagine.

Myself and another volunteer went in to see the dog and one of the staff members started saying we could see Mya, but then almost gleefully informed us that she was going to be killed and that she was a nasty dog! She also screamed at me for not being polite enough to her (in her words) in front of many people who were as shocked as I was. All this for no reason! It was very upsetting! Fortunately, this dog was saved and adopted out after VOLUNTEERS from Burnaby begged and pleaded her case. They thanked the current Branch Manager for her life, but I always wondered why on earth the poor dog was put through such a traumatic experience. We found out later from Vancouver volunteers that she was shoved in the kennel by a catch pole and prodded while all she had done was show fear at being roughly handled by a vet tech. I do know that Kim M was one person who really liked Mya and helped plead her case.

Despite all of the negative, there are still some people choosing to do great things at the BCSPCA
