Every animal in the care of real adoptors is first made healthy, physically and behaviourally. The animal is kept until it is well and until the perfect home is found. Careful screening is done and home checks. Follow-up advice and help is given for as long as necessary.
Used-pet sellers don't care who buys the animal. No, or minimal, screening is done so that no sales are lost because a purchaser is clearly incapable of providing good care. Home checks are not done, because once the seller has the money, why would they?
How do you tell the difference between a mass pet-marketer and a real animal welfarist?
Easy...
Mass pet-marketers need a lot of product to sell. Unlimited surrender supplies the product in unlimited amounts - for free. It requires the killing of thousands of healthy animals, a cheap cost of doing business.
Real animal welfarists won't kill an animal to make room for another. Real animal welfarists practice limited surrender.
How do you tell the difference between an animal businessman and an animal welfarist?

The animal businessman spends money to make more money, and protects and promotes themselves with P.R. departments and slick marketing.
Animal welfarists spend all their money on actual animal welfare.
The animal businessman makes sure the supply of product never dries up. Solutions to the pet overpopulation problem are avoided.
The animal welfarist spends money trying to end the pet overpopulation problem.
Oh, and one more difference...
The pet businessman is paid hundreds of thousands, drives fancy cars, goes on "business trips" and gets lots of perks.
The animal welfarists is headed for the poor-house, lugging armloads of cats and dogs!
