I was a phone witness to this incident. Donna Liberson phoned me from Atlas Animal Hospital while the two Pound employees were still present and while the two dogs were still alive. One of the dogs (a small Shepherd cross) was in the back of the clinic being readied for killing and the other dog (a Pit bull or a Pit bull cross) was in a Pound van in the parking lot. (Note: it is a misuse of a decent word to call pound killing "euthanasia". Neither of the dogs would benefit from being killed, which is the true definition of euthanasia.)
Donna called me to ask if I could take the dogs, should the Pound be willing to surrender them to me. I first spoke to Atlas Animal Hospital employee, Kal, who confirmed Donna's facts. I then asked to speak to one of the Pound employees. I wanted to know more about the Shepherd, who I might have been able to take, and I wanted to ask if the Pound had contacted any rescue groups or scheduled rehabilitation or an assessment as an alternative to killing the dogs. One of the employees came on the line, but as soon as I introduced myself she said "I can't speak to you", and hung up.
I phoned back and asked Kal to have Dr Bhullar phone me, but I did not get a call from him.
I will be writing the Mayor and Council and contacting Paul Teichroeb, Director of Licenses, and Nancy Clay, Manager, Animal Control Services.
