SPCA ignores another pup-in-the-box "We do know that it wasn't the last time in the torture box"

Two years ago, my friend visited her son at his new home in the lower mainland.
She noticed a wooden box in the middle of the neighbours yard. It was on one of those scorching days
we seem to have so often now in the summer. The sun was beating down relentlessly on that box. She was
horrified to hear what sounded like an animal whining in the box. My friend went to the neighbour's house and
when no one answered the door she went into the backyard to investigate the box. Through a slit in the wood,
my friend discovered what looked to her about a 4 month old puppy inside.
The puppy was laying on her side panting heavily and didn't seem able to get up. There was no water in that box.
My friend took the pup out of the box and gave it some water.
The owners, it turned out, were at work. When my friend questioned the people as to why they would leave an
animal in a box in the sun the woman replied that her husband bought the dog and she hated it. The woman was
asked why she didn't find a new home for the dog she said that it had cost a lot of money. Go figure !
My friend did report her concerns to the SPCA but the puppy was not siezed.
We don't know about some of the unspeakable cruelty that that pup had to endure but we do know that it wasn't
the last time in the torture box.
My friend felt compelled to check on the puppy and repeatedly removed the dog from the box while the "owners"
were at work.
A perfect opportunity arose a few weeks later when the people were moving and left the puppy to fend for itself
for a few days. I guess somehow the gate got open and the puppy ran away to a loving home where it got
lots of kisses ,and food ,and water ,and other pets to play with ,and nice children to sleep with at night.
