Patricia: Your post struck such a sympathetic chord in myself that I had to respond.
In April of this year, I very publicly condemned the Kamloops SPCA for the euthanizing of two puppy mill dogs and their very questionable decision making as far as fostering/rehab or adoption of these poor animals was concerned. I remember feeling just as you stated:
"I am not a person who has made a fuss about anything in my life...this has upset me so much...I am bringing attention to me, my family, my business that may end up being negative. But I do not care I am so upset by these helpless dogs being returned to the breeder...I have learned in the last 24 hours that this is not an isolated case...Thank God we are making a stand...someone has to..."
In April, I happened to see a news report on a lady in her 80's who was on her way to jail once again for stating her opinions and protesting publicly. I admired her for being so strong and sticking to her convictions and thought if she can do it I can too. I never started my fight to win friends, I just wanted to stop the killing of innocent dogs. I was forced to speak out against what I felt was abuse of power/authority by the local SPCA and lack of compassion for the very animals that this same society purports to defend. Looking back on it now, I would not change a thing.
You are courageous... the more that people speak out the sooner things will change for the better. Together we are a much louder voice.
